Information
The website romanportraits.com covers all artefacts relating to archaeology, ancient glyptics and numismatics that are known in the relevant literature as the ‘North German Private Collection’, curated by the classical archaeologist Dr Alexander Mlasowsky.
It is intended to serve as a source of information for fellow scholars and as a basis for their own research.
However, it is also intended to be helpful for teachers, students and school pupils, as well as members of the general public,
in exploring the world of ancient Greece and Rome. Whilst the printed publications in academic journals and books are considered finalised once published, the website remains a living resource in that new academic findings are continually incorporated.
The ancient portraits have been scanned in such a way that they can be rotated and zoomed in on.
The reliefs, cameos, gemstones and coins are presented as photographs.
All image rights are held by the artaconfilms association.
The images may not be altered, cropped or distributed without written permission.

The explanatory texts are in German and English so that they can be easily read by colleagues both at home and abroad.
The first section – which applies primarily to the rulers – contains a brief historical overview,
whilst the second section focuses on the object itself.
Part of the North German private collection has already been published in print (Info).
